Match Day 3 ended of World Cup 2018 and 16 teams confirmed their place in last 16. Current World champion Germany crashed out of group stage while two times champions Argentina managed to reach the knockout stage after a hard fought win against Super Eagles Nigeria. Brazil, Portugal & Spain, England, Belgium also makes the cut for last 16 tie.

Group A - Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay
With one left the scenario was: Host Russia & two times World champion Uruguay already qualified from group A and will meet in the last group game that'll decide the group leader. Egypt and Saudi Arabia suffered two back to back losses and already eliminated. They’ll play each other in last game only for pride. Should Russia and Uruguay draw in the last game, Russia will win group A due to their superior goal difference.
Group A completed:
- Uruguay progress as group winner with host Russia through as runner-up.
- Uruguay play Portugal on June 30 in the last 16 tie
- Spain play host Russia on July 1 for a quarter-final birth

Group B - Iran, Morocco, Portugal, Spain
With one left the scenario was: With two losses from as many games, Morocco already crashed out from group B. Spain, Portugal & Iran all are in contention to progress to the next stage. Spain face Morocco & Portugal play Iran in the last group matches.
Spain- A win or draw against Morocco will confirm last 16 place for Spain. They still can qualify with a loss as long Portugal does not suffer a loss to Iran. In case of Iran win against Portugal, Spain can lose to Morocco no more than one goal difference.
Portugal- Portugal needs at least one point against Iran to qualify to Round of 16.
Iran- Iran must beat Portugal to qualify to the knockout phase. A Iran win and Spain’s loss or draw against Morocco will guaranty top Position for Iran
Group B Completed:
- Spain claims groups top spot over Portugal based on goals scored
- Spain play host Russia on July 1, Portugal face Uruguay on June 30
Group B points table:
Group C - Australia, Denmark, France, Peru
With one left the scenario was: France has already qualified and only need a draw against Denmark to keep the group top position. Denmark and Australia are battling for the final spot, and Peru already crashed out from World Cup.
France- Already qualified. A draw will be enough to top the group.
Denmark- A draw against table-topper France will see them through to the next stage. A win will ensure their group winner position.
Australia- Must win against Peru and France must beat Denmark, and then goal difference will come into play.
Group C completed:
- France progress as group winner, Denmark claims the second spot
- 1998 World champion France will play two times World champion Argentina for a quarter-final bid on June 30
- Croatia will play Denmark on July 1
Group C points table:
Group D - Argentina, Croatia, Iceland, Nigeria
With one left the scenario was: Croatia grabbed 6 points from two matches and qualified for the last 16. Only a heavy defeat against Iceland can prevent them taking group top spot. Iceland, Argentina & Nigeria all have realistic chance to grab the remaining one spot.
Argentina- Must beat Nigeria and must hope Iceland does not win against Croatia. If Iceland beat Croatia then Argentina needs to win by at least one more goal than Iceland to surpass them.
Nigeria- A win against Argentina will be enough for them. If they draw against Argentina, they still can qualify, provided Iceland does not beat Croatia by more than two goal-margins.
Iceland- They must beat table-topper Croatia and need Argentina to beat Nigeria. Then Iceland must beat Croatia with at least same goal-margins as Argentina’s against Nigeria.
Group D completed:
- Croatia & Argentina are though to the last 16 as group winner & runner-up respectively.
- Croatia play group C runner-up Denmark on July 1
- Argentina will face France in the first match of knockout phase on June 30
Group D points table:
Group E - Brazil, Costa Rica, Serbia, Switzerland
With one left the scenario was: With Costa Rica already eliminated, Brazil, Switzerland & Serbia remains in the hunt for next round.
Brazil- A draw against Serbia will be enough for Brazil, but a win will see them take group top spot provided Switzerland does not beat Costa Rica by more than one goal-margins.
Switzerland-A win or draw will confirm last 16 places for Switzerland. They can still qualify with a defeat against Costa Rica as long as Brazil beat Serbia.
Serbia- Must beat Brazil or at least grab a draw and hopes for a loss of Switzerland against Costa Rica by at least two goal-margins.
Group E completed:
- Group E winner Brazil will play group F second placed Mexico on July 2 in the round of 16.
- Switzerland claimed the second spot and will lock horn with Group F winner Sweden on July 3 in the next round
Group E points table:
Group F - Germany, Mexico, South Korea, Sweden
With one left the scenario was: No team have confirmed their place in last 16 so far from group F. Mexico, Germany & Sweden are in pole position but Mathematically South Korea still can qualify.
Mexico- with six points, Mexico sits in the most comfortable position. They need only one point to cement their place as group champions. Only a heave defeat against Sweden and a Germany win can prevent Mexico from progressing from group stage.
Germany- Last minute winner against Sweden keeps Germany in the World Cup. Germany can qualify if they beat South Korea and Sweden does not beat Mexico by a bigger margin.
Sweden- Sweden will qualify if they beat table-topper Mexico and Germany fail to beat South Korea, or if they win by bigger margin than current world champion Germany.
South Korea- South Korea could qualify if they beat Germany by two goals, and Sweden loses.
Group F completed:
- Sweden claimed the top spot and Mexico second place of group F
- Mexico to face Brazil on July 2 and Sweden to face Switzerland on July 3 for a place in the quarter-final
- Current champion Germany crashed from group stage following 0-2 loss against South Korea
Group F points table:
Group G - Belgium, England, Panama, Tunisia
With one left the scenario was: England and Belgium already qualified from group G while Panama and Tunisia crashed out. Match between England and Belgium will decide the group winner. Winner will top the group. The sides are currently level on points and goal difference. If the match ends a draw, the sides with better disciplinary will take the top spot (currently England has two yellow compared to Belgium’s three).
Group G completed:
- Belgium beat England and claimed group G top spot.
- Belgium to play group H runner-up Japan on July 2.
- England will face group H winner Colombia on July 3.

Group H - Colombia, Japan, Poland, Senegal
With one left the scenario was: Japan, Senegal & Colombia are battling for group H top two spot. With two defeats from first two matches, Poland are out.
Japan-A draw will ensure Japan’s place in last 16. They can still qualify with a defeat if Senegal beat Colombia.
Senegal- A draw against Colombia is enough to secure last 16 births for Senegal. A win will enhance their chance to top the group.
Colombia- A win is must against Senegal. If Japan fail to beat Poland, Colombia will progress as group winner
Group H completed:
- Colombia and Japan takes 1st and 2nd place of group H respectively.
- Colombia to play England on July 3 & Japan will battle against Belgium for a quarter-final birth.
